Merton Intermediate School
Encore, Exploratory, and Elective (E3) Wheel
The E³ design is an integral part of the intermediate concept. The philosophy is that children at this age level have not landed on their specific specialty area of fine, performing, or technical arts and that these classes can support the Academic and Career Planning (ACP) process.
ENCORE- Additional core required classes ensure that students experience additional hands-on, participatory, meaningful, and engaging curriculum experiences.
Exploratory - Exploratory classes give the students the opportunity to move around and learn in a different way. By changing courses every quarter, students get the opportunity to explore different areas that might interest them. Students experience courses so that they gain valuable exposure to multiple elective strands:
-
Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Manufacturing (STEAM)
-
Family and Consumer Science,
-
Information Technology and Entrepreneurship, and
-
Health Sciences and Wellness.
Merton’s explore wheel is connected to Arrowhead departments and learning pathways ensuring that they can explore courses that they may want to specialize in before they enter high school.
Electives - Electives are classes students can choose, allowing them to study topics that spark their curiosity and interest. Several electives are also connected to Arrowhead departments and learning pathways.
