Primary instructional resources are not used in entirety in the Merton Community School District. We review the prioritized resources to determine which components align to our approved standards and leverage those components for instructions. During curriculum writing, our teacher teams will look to remove any lessons or materials. Reasons for removal include but are not limited to, the capacity of our primary/intermediate school-day schedules for math instruction, it is deemed developmentally inappropriate, or it may not align with our District Board policies, and if they are not aligned to our district and community values.

Glencoe Algebra - 8th Grade Algebra B Students
We will be updating this website throughout the 2023-2024 school year.
The Board approved a revised mathematical pathway, including a parental choice option, starting the 2024-2025 school year. A graphic of the pathway is found on this link or shown below. More information will come in the late winter/early spring of 2024.
Transparency in Instructional Resources
Merton's families will receive a family letter for each topic. Merton also has included the curriculum documents for each unit in each grade level. These are located on the right side of this webpage.
These instructional resources have been reviewed per our District policy 7041. This policy explicitly states that the Merton curriculum shall not promote or advocate for the following:
-
That any sex, race, ethnicity, color, or national origin is inherently superior or inferior
-
Individuals should be adversely treated on the basis of their sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, or national origin.
-
Individuals, by virtue of sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, or national origin are inherently responsible for actions committed by other, unrelated members of the same sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, or national origin.
-
A body of legal scholarship popularly known as “Critical Race Theory” has in many respects advocated beliefs that are in direct conflict with our District nondiscrimination policy, and thus in these respects would not be an acceptable element of the curriculum under this policy.
