Studies show that reading four to five books over the summer has a positive impact comparable to summer school enrollment.
Ways to incorporate reading into your summer plans:
- Take a trip to your local library
- Bring a book with you to the park or the beach
- Read a book/ chapter in the morning, when your child is used to learning and before other plans cause distraction
|
-
Keep a summer FUN journal of big events or special memories your child has, encourage them to write or draw about what happened using their own words and ideas.
-
Create a grocery list when going shopping
-
Make your own cards for special events over summer (i.e. Father’s day or graduation)
-
Keep in touch with friends or family through writing an email or sending a friendly note.
-
Summer cleaning/organizing - have your child create labels for the important things around the house.
-
Letter/Word practice outside with chalk
