The Merton Community School District provides a continuum of services for those students who qualify for special education and related services. Each student who is found to be eligible for special education services has an individual education plan (IEP) developed that specifies the services that will be provided to the student to meet his/her needs. The IEP is developed by an IEP team which includes parents as well as school professionals who work together to develop a plan that meets the unique needs of the student.
If you would like additional information about special education programming at Merton Schools please contact Travis Gardner, Director of Special Education/School Psychologist at 262-538-2227 or gardnert@merton.k12.wi.us.
Family engagement liaisons are trained by the Wisconsin Statewide Parent Educator initiative (WSPEI) to support communication between the school district and families. They can support families in a number of ways including mentoring families who are new to special education, answering questions families have about how to participate in their child's education and IEP process and sharing information and resources with families. Lauren's parent perspective allows her to relate to fellow parents in the district. You can reach Lauren at parentliaison@merton.k12.wi.us.
Parents United is a non-profit consortium of 24 special education departments that have joined to provide an educational community service. A number of free daytime and evening educational programs are offered throughout the school year. Brochures are available in both school offices, and information on upcoming programs is included in the school newsletters.
