LMC Goal:
The Merton School LMC aims to build students’ love of reading & learning by providing access to information in print and online.
The Routine:
Primary
|
Intermediate
|
Each grade at the Primary level has a scheduled time for library checkout or lesson each week. The only exception will be when each grade rotates to receive age-appropriate guidance lessons by our school counselor. (ie: every 4th week classes will have a guidance lesson.)
The focus of library time will be determined by grade level teachers in collaboration with our school library staff. Themes may include: season, trending series, literature classics, grade-level favorites, and more. Skills applied during this time may include: library navigation, information literacy, and digital citizenship. Students check out independently with adult support as needed. Note: we have many parent library volunteers, but are always looking for more help to maintain materials and assist in a variety of library projects. Contact Mrs. Wieczorek if you are available regularly or part-time.
|
The Intermediate library is always open to access resources and use as a productive space. Grades 4-6 check out books with their class each week. Grades 7 & 8 check out books as needed for school projects and reading pleasure. It is important that Intermediate students utilize our LMC with courtesy of the space, materials, and others. We employ an honor system where we rely on each student to check out library materials independently. If there are questions that come up when using the space, be sure to ask Mrs. Wieczorek or Mrs. Schmitt.

Resource Maintenance:
As any library requests, please take care of school materials and return them in great condition. We each need to do our best to maintain a well-rounded collection and ensure that we are able to continue to benefit from having both print and online resources.
LMC News:

Shelf labels have been added to help students find books. In the Non-Fiction section, category topics (according to the Dewey System) are labeled. In the Fiction & ‘I Can Read’ sections trending series and alphabetical labels according to the author’s last name have been added. The Easy section has been labeled by alphabetical listing by author’s last name.
Did you know within Destiny you can search for books and make a list of books to check out? Students receive adult assistance as needed, but are building skills to be comfortable in using our Library Catalog, Destiny (destiny.merton.k12.wi.us) to navigate our resources.
To expand access to our resources, the Primary LMC will share the school iPad cart.

QR Codes have been added to the Intermediate LMC as a fun way to highlight certain library resources to students with SMART devices. Since Merton has a bring your own device option there are plenty of devices around school to take advantage to QR Codes. Join the fun, download a free app, scan and instantly access some cool sites. Visit the new QR Guide to Merton School LMC to access those same resources without a device.
The Intermediate LMC will continue to share the cart of Color Nooks.
