In order to continue promoting a love of reading among our Intermediate students, our media center will be providing the opportunity to participate in a state wide Battle of the Books competition through WEMTA, Wisconsin Educational Media & Technology Association.
Battle of the Books is a fun, academic-based competition that has been very successful in school district's throughout the state in encouraging students to read.
Participants are encouraged to read a variety of books and remember information about the plots, characters, and settings of the books. Every question asked in a battle is answered by the title and author of the book. For example: Name the book in which a horse and a boy are stranded on an island.
The WEMTA divisions we participate in are: 1) The Elementary Division for 4th & 5th grades and 2) The Middle Division for the 6th, 7th and 8th graders.
The elementary division reads the nominated Golden Archer winners for the primary and intermediate levels plus a variety of other award winning titles. The middle level participants read the nominated titles for the intermediate and junior high level plus ten other titles which were determined by media specialists throughout the state. The senior division reading list aims to expose students to current award winning literature. The list incorporates awards such as: Golden Archer, Newbery, Printz, Siebert and others.

How will it work?
Step 1: Sign up by creating a team & turning in your permission slip in to Mrs Wieczorek. (Once teams are signed up- there will be no changes.)
Step 2: Have fun & Read, Read, Read
The list of books are posted under the clock in the Intermediate Library & downloadable below.
WARNING: This year's books are marked with an orange dot, but just because a book has an orange dot, make sure it is listed for your division.
Step 3: Listen to announcements in January- Merton Intermediate School Battles begin. Watch for battle schedule & show up for your time.
Step 4: Qualifying teams will compete online in February for the State Battle
