Primary LMC General Procedures:
-
Care of materials: It is expected that students take care of school materials and return them in great condition. We each need to maintain our collection, because some books are simply irreplaceable. In the event of lost or damaged materials the student will be responsible to pay the school the value of the book.
-
Sharing space expectations: The LMC is a large space that is shared by all classes and all grades. It is necessary that we leave the space in the same condition in which it is found. Please return books to the proper places and assist in keeping the space tidy. While the LMC is in use, be considerate of others using the space with the understanding its purpose of being a productive, learning space intended to engage, support and serve a variety of learners.
-
Number of items for checkout:
-
4K: 1 book limit
-
5K: 3 book limit
-
Grades 1 through 3: up to 5 books, with the exception of a parent/teacher request
-
Students are strongly encouraged to check out a variety of books:
-
Independent reads & some to read with a parent
-
“Just Right” books (at their level) & some that challenge them
-
Nonfiction and Fiction selections
-
Students will have freedom to select materials.
-
When students forget to return materials, we will check out additional materials and remind them to return other books the next day. Students who habitually forget their books will be asked to keep 3 books in their desk at all times, to be assured to have books available that can be returned each week.
-
The library prefers not to employ a ‘hold’ system that sets titles aside for students who forget their materials. The ‘hold’ system will be considered a reward to enable the flow of popular reads for responsible library users.
-
Due Dates: The LMC prefers that items are due back each week. Books that require extended time may be renewed up to two times. Popular books such as Guinness Book of World Records/Scholasitc Book of World Records cannot be renewed to allow for maximum availability throughout the year for others.
-
Library return procedure: Each morning books will be collected/returned to the library book drop.
